I would imagine it's because the US would be able to fuck them over on processing US dollar payments. Its why UK banks can't hold accounts with USD for someone based in Cuba and other countries America don't like. If a UK bank were to be found holding USD funds for a Cuban that could result in America refusing to allow that company deal in the currency at all.
What with USD being the one of the three most used currencies that would resut in a shit-ton of lost business. So yeh it is partly a cowardly response but its probably more of a 'business sense' response

Недаром PayPal и прочие мастадонты испугались и отпрыгнули. Теперь остается выяснить, действительно ли ВЛ включен в такой черный список (обычно используется против террористов). Во всяком случае уже вторую неделю идут разговоры о хождении в США некоего secret indictment (тайного состава обвинения) против Ассанжа.
